This year's annual Wines of Chile Wine Gala was held at Parque Bicentenario and brought together hundreds of people in the industry for an evening of wine, gastronomy and music.
With over 30 wineries showcasing their wines, and countless food stands, Thursday was an evening to celebrate. For the last 20 years Wines of Chile has held its annual gala to bring together people in the industry, recap the events of the year and celebrate one winery and one personality of the year for their contribution to Chilean wine.
Opened by the mayor of Vitacura, Raúl Torrealba, and the President of Wines of Chile, Mario Pablo Silva, the event marked the beginning of a long wine weekend with a public wine tasting event held in the same venue that weekend - last Friday and Saturday. The national wine fair attracted over 5000 wine lovers from around Chile.
At the gala, the two top accolades were announced for the year:
Winery of the Year: Viña Santa Rita
Santa Rita was chosen as the winery of the year for their great passion in sharing Chilean wine around the world, and for acting as an ambassador to the industry. Their sustainable management of the vineyards and winery was also commended, and sustainability was recognised as one of the most important pillars of the Chilean wine industry today.
Personality of the Year: Yerko Moreno Simunovic
One of the most prominent agronomists in Chile, Yerko Moreno Simunovic was recognised as Personality of the Year for his research into improving the genetic vine material available in Chile and improving vineyard management techniques around the country. He is also a published author and has taught many of the new generation of agronomists in Chile.
