Wine Bar War returns to London!

The renowned Wine Bar War, which sees 16 sommeliers battle it out to make the best pop-up wine bar, returns to London next month. After the success of last year's first UK Wine Bar War, the competition is back and it is fiercer than ever!

The big bar battle is back as Wine Bar War returns to London this July. Four teams of top sommeliers will once again battle it out to be crowned Wine Bar War Champions and win a trip of a lifetime to Chile.

Over the course of the Imbibe Live wine fair, four teams of four sommeliers from around the UK will put their thinking hats on and pull out their corkscrews to create the best pop-up wine bar in just two days. They will go head to head to see which team can create the greatest buzz about Chilean wine, and ultimately have the best bar.

The compere for the event is wine writer and TV presenter Joe Wadsack, who will be joined will be judges Ronan Sayburn MS, Jane Parkinson, Anne Krebiehl MW and editor of Imbibe Magazine, Chris Losh, as well as the winners of last year’s competition, team “El Conquistador”. Each of the judges will be looking at the overall design and concept, but also the service and the wine lists that the teams present. The judges will be looking at the suitability of the list for a wine bar, its balance and creativity, as well as how well it reflects Chile’s regionality and versatility.

The trade audience visiting throughout Imbibe Live, will also be casting a critical eye over the competing wine bars and choosing a favourite for their vote. Last year saw over 2000 votes cast by suitably impressed visitors to the Wine Bar War stand and the atmosphere was electric throughout as the teams battled it out to be the best.

The competing sommeliers are:

  • Charles Pashby-Taylor – Dabbous
  • Raphael Thierry – Butlers Wharf Chop House
  • Jonathan Gleeman – Social Eating House
  • Zigmars Grinbergs – Oblix at The Shard
  • Louise Hawkins – The Library Bar, Bristol
  • David Burton – Hotel du Vin, Newcastle
  • Lukasz Walkowiak – Oxo Tower
  • Noémie Favart – The Lanesborough
  • Svetoslav Manolev – Park Chinois, Mayfair
